Living the Goal

Years ago, I was at a New Year’s Eve event and noticed a woman across the room.
She radiated ease. Confident, grounded, genuinely happy in her own skin. I remember thinking, That’s the kind of presence I want to have.

Recently, in a coaching session with Tracey Howlett, we were working through my skills set. I was describing a particular encounter with a complete stranger — a simple, human moment of connection.

As I talked it through, I realised something unexpected.

The energy I was describing wasn’t aspirational. It was familiar. It was mine.
That same openness. That same warmth. That same ease.
I’ve reached the goal I once set for myself — to feel comfortable in my own skin — and the shift happened gradually, through reflection, challenge, and practice.

Being coached has strengthened my self-awareness. Becoming a coach has deepened it further.

For me, the leadership lesson is clear: how we see ourselves shapes how we lead. When we are more comfortable in who we are, we show up with greater presence, clarity, and impact.

The breakthrough wasn’t about becoming someone new.

It was about recognising the leader I’ve already become.
